MacBook Air

Major minor details.

MacBook Air.

The brilliance of multi-touch.

MacBook Air includes an oversize trackpad with multi-touch technology. You can pinch, swipe, or rotate to zoom in on text, advance through a photo album, or adjust an image. This gesture-based input so successful on iPhone and iPod touch now comes to MacBook.

13” LED display.

A smart LED display.

The backlit LED display allows for an even thinner build. It provides instant full-screen brightness the moment you open MacBook Air. The mercury- and arsenic-free display is also more power efficient, which translates to longer battery life.

Thin is in the details.

The innovative now-you-see-it, now-you-don’t port hatch flips down to reveal (and closes to hide) all the ports you really need: a USB 2.0 port, a headphone jack, and a micro-DVI port that supports DVI, VGA, composite, and S-video output. Even the MagSafe power connection has been reconsidered and slimmed to fit MacBook Air.

So thin yet so expansive.

MacBook Air comes with a way-more-than-generous 2GB of RAM built in — ample memory for working with your favorite applications. The 80GB hard drive provides plenty of storage space. And you have the option to upgrade to a 64GB solid-state drive, which has no moving parts for enhanced durability.1

Hard drive and solid state drive.

Intel Core 2 Duo processors.

Micro. Chip.

MacBook Air performance is as impressive as its form, thanks to its 1.6GHz or 1.8GHz Intel Core 2 Duo processor. This chip was custom-built to fit within the compact dimensions of MacBook Air.

Built-in iSight camera.

Unlike most other ultraportable notebooks, MacBook Air includes a built-in iSight camera. It’s so smartly integrated, you hardly notice it’s there. The iSight camera and iChat software make video chatting easy anywhere there’s a wireless network.2

Battery life: 5 hours wireless productivity.

The battery is slimmer.
The performance isn’t.

The MacBook Air battery is our thinnest ever, yet it doesn’t compromise power. You can access the web wirelessly for five full hours.3

MacBook Pro

MacBook Pros.

Multi-Touch meets MacBook Pro.

Multi-Touch technology from iPhone, iPod touch, and MacBook Air comes to MacBook Pro in an amazing new Multi-Touch trackpad. Now you can pinch, swipe, or rotate to enlarge text, advance through photos, or adjust an image.

Room for more.

250 GB Storage.

MacBook Pro has a standard hard drive up to 250GB and up to 4GB of RAM. So there’s more room for even bigger ideas.

Chips.

Power duo.

The new Intel Core 2 Duo processors run at speeds up to 2.6GHz on a groundbreaking 45-nm process technology with up to 6MB L2 cache. Which means you can encode video, render effects, and open and manipulate large images that much faster. Learn more

Ins and outs.

Connect storage, multimedia devices, and high-speed peripherals to your MacBook Pro. Along the sides, you’ll find a FireWire 400 port, a FireWire 800 port, a DVI port, optical audio in and out ports, and an ExpressCard slot. There are three USB 2.0 ports on the 17-inch MacBook Pro and two on the 15-inch models.

Input and outputs.

Supersized display.

Connect an Apple Cinema Display to expand your desktop and lose nothing in translation. That’s because the DVI connection gives you a pure digital signal from system to display. View more than 4 million pixels on a 30-inch Apple Cinema HD Display, powered by the NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GT graphics processor.

MagSafe.

Even the power cord is a feature.

The MacBook Pro power adapter with MagSafe connector is a magnetic connection instead of a physical one. So, if you happen to trip over the power cord, you won’t send MacBook Pro flying. The cord simply disconnects, without damage to either the cord or the notebook.

Speaker.

Sounds all around.

MacBook Pro sounds as good as it looks, with unprecedented attention to audio detail. For musicians on the go, MacBook Pro offers pristine sound through crisp, clear stereo speakers, a built-in microphone, and optical digital audio on both input and output.

Built-in iSight.

Strategically placed in the center of the MacBook Pro display bezel is a small but powerful iSight camera. Wherever you go, you can video conference with iChat, make a movie with iMovie, and experiment in Photo Booth.

MacBook

250 GB Storage.

More is more.

Music, photos, movies — not to mention your documents and other files — all start adding up. And add up they can, because the new MacBook offers larger hard drives across the line. With up to 2GB of memory standard, you can multi-task like never before.

Chips.

Better than ever.

Inside the new MacBook is the latest Intel Core 2 Duo processor based on 45nm-process technology and advanced Core microarchitecture. This powerful technology lets Intel create hundreds of millions of microscopic 45-nanometer transistors. And the advancements keep advancing with 3MB of shared L2 cache and a newly enhanced SSE4 vector engine. Translation: you get a MacBook with snappier performance that runs applications faster and more efficiently than ever before.

The new MacBook runs applications up to 58% faster than the previous generation. Learn more

MacBook Application Performance

When looking at how the new MacBook performs with real-world applications, you can clearly see its performance advantage over the previous generation. With the new MacBook, you’ll enjoy new levels of performance with tasks across the board, whether it’s creating web pages, movies, music, or organizing and enjoying your favorite pictures and music.

Testing conducted by Apple in February 2008 using preproduction 2.4GHz Intel Core 2 Duo–based MacBook units; MacBook systems with Core Duo were shipping units. MacBook continuously monitors system thermal and power conditions, and may adjust processor speed as needed to maintain optimal system operation.

iPhoto. This test involves importing 100 photos into an existing iPhoto library containing 2000 photos.  It also measures exporting as a web page, exporting as a movie file, and preparing for iDVD.

58% faster

iTunes. This test measures importing a song from the hard drive to the iTunes library, encoding a video clip for iPod, and encoding 60 minutes of music and burning it to a CD.

41% faster

iWeb. In this test, a website project is created and prepared for publishing using the Modern template, 41 source photos, a video podcast, and a QuickTime movie.

29% faster

GarageBand. This test measures how long it takes to export a GarageBand song to iTunes.

Making connections.

Making connections.

Sometimes your work needs room. So extend your MacBook desktop by connecting a 20- or 23-inch Apple Cinema Display. But why stop the add-ons there? Your MacBook also includes two USB 2.0 ports, a FireWire 400 port, Gigabit Ethernet, audio input and headphone jacks, and a convenient lock slot.

Optical Drive.

When you want to burn a party mix CD or a Hollywood-caliber iMovie creation, do so on a 24x Combo drive or an 8x double-layer SuperDrive.

Power Play.

Power play.

The MagSafe Power Adapter is just that: a magnetic connection instead of a physical one. So tripping over a power cord won’t send your shiny new MacBook flying off a table or desk. The cord simply breaks cleanly away, without damage to either the cord or the system.

Magnetic attraction.

Trackpad.

Two-finger scroll.

With two-finger scrolling, the trackpad becomes a fast track to wherever you want to go. And if you come from a right-click world, it’s easy to make the MacBook fit in your comfort zone. There are shortcuts for right-click functionality, forward delete, and more.

Magnetic attraction.

Opening and closing your MacBook is a pleasure, thanks to a magnetic latch that catches without a catch. And because it's a magnet, there are no moving parts to snag, jam, or break.

Lights, MacBook, action.

iChat screenshot.

Cleverly integrated above your MacBook display is an iSight camera. You can be there without being there using iChat. Video chat with a buddy, share a photo slideshow with Mom, or run through a presentation with a colleague. Since you're close-up ready, use iSight with Photo Booth for fun photo effects. Or star in your own indie flick with iMovie. Like everything Mac, your iSight just works. No need to waste valuable primping time installing software or configuring the camera. Just smile.
